Celebration of Life Services for Dr. James J. Kirkland will be held on Friday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 305 West Gaines Street, Dublin, with visitation there at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Bob Williams will officiate at the service.

Dr. Kirkland was born on November 25, 1935, in Manchester, Georgia, and was graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia and from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He entered the Medical College of Georgia, where he was a member of Phi Chi., and after his 1960 graduation, he interned at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and then served in the U.S Air Force. After completing his term, He began his medical practice, which ended on February 21, 2020.

Dr. Kirkland was preceded in death by his parents W.P. Kirkland, MD and Mrs. Etta White Kirkland, and by his son, Dr. James "Jimmy" Jeffery Kirkland, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Anne G. Kirkland; sons; Douglas Randolph (Lisa) Kirkland, Tucker, Georgia and John Owen (Pam) Kirkland, Scott, Georgia; five grandchildren; Hannah Marie Kirkland, James Jeffery Kirkland III, Kristen Blair Rutherford, Rachel Kate Kirkland, and Elizabeth Lane Kirkland; and one great-granddaughter, Blair Brook Rutherford.

Dr. Kirkland was a member of Dublin First United Methodist Church, Dublin Country Club, Dublin-Laurens Art Council and Dublin Sportsman Club and was a true Bulldog fan, and loved his cats.

Members of the Key Sunday School Class are requested to sit together in a body.

A private service of internment will be held at a later time.
