Obituary

Ray Hinson, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on July 29, 1937, to the late Hoke Hinson and Mattie Lou Cannon Hinson.

Ray was a hardworking man who spent much of his life doing what he knew best, working with his hands. Raised in a family of mechanics, the love of automobiles and mechanical work was simply a part of who he was. He carried on with the family tradition and became a skilled and dedicated mechanic, taking pride in his work and in being able to fix what others could not.

Those who knew Ray knew that he was a man of routine, familiarity, and simple pleasures. One of his favorite places to visit was Waffle House, where he became more than just a regular customer. The staff knew Ray by name and, oftentimes, knew exactly what he wanted to order as soon as they saw him walk through the door.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his siblings, John Hinson, Irene Foskey, and Ella Mae Peacock.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Donnie Hinson and Diann Hinson; his siblings, Mary (Willie Earl) Hart, Mattie (David) Burns, Margarie (George) Day, and Marie Fields; his grandchildren, Kimberly (Dylan) O’Quinn, Angel (Kyle) Giddens, Daniel Downs, and Derek Downs; his great-grandchildren, Kehlani O’Quinn, Will Teston, and Kylie Teston; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
