Funeral Services for Mrs. Doretha Carswell will be held Monday, June 30, 2025, at 1:00PM. Location: New Vision Missionary Baptist Church 951 Field Street – Dudley, Georgia. Pastor Horace Austin, Jr. will serve as eulogist. Interment will follow at New Vision Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Doretha Carswell, aka “Doe” as she was affectionately called and will always be remembered as a special homemaker, loving and devoted wife, mother, grand and great grandmother. Her life reminds us that true strength is not always loud, it is often found in her quite presence.
Mrs. Carswell was born in Dudley, Georgia on February 21, 1927, to the late Sam and Luvenia Godfrey. She accepted Christ at an early age and united Byrd Hill Baptist Church where her foundation of faith was firmly established. As she grew in faith, she later became a devoted and founding member of New Vision Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member until her health declined.
Mrs. Carswell was joined in holy matrimony to Porter A. Carswell for 25 years who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death in death by three of her children: Larry, Ira, Essie and nine of her siblings.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted daughters: Elaine (Walter) Ashley and Dr. Diane Moorman of Montrose, Georgia; son, Ronald (Sharon) Carswell of Snellville, Georgia; stepson, Rev. Ellis (Dorothy) Carswell of Dublin, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Eva Carswell of Montrose, Georgia; son-in-law, James Robert White of Dudley, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Clara (Rev. Stephen) Richmond of Dublin, Georgia, Hattie Carswell of Dudley, Georgia and Dollie Carswell of Washington D.C; brother-in-law, Clifton (Ann) Carswell of Macon, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Public viewing will be held Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the funeral home from 1:00-7:00PM.
