Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Gertrude Barton Spurgeon Adams will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025, beginning at 3:00PM. Location: Serenity Funeral Home Chapel - 414 Telfair Street Dublin, GA 31021.
Gertrude Adams, 95, transitioned from this earthly life in Toomsboro, Georgia on June 6, 2025.
Mrs. Adams was born in Cedartown, Ga., to the late Pleas and Josephine Barton. At an early age she joined Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Cedartown. She later joined the New Emmanuel Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., where she served on the deaconess board and was a member of the choir.
She graduated from Cedar Hill High School in Cedartown. Mrs. Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Savannah State College. She began her teaching career in Lyons County, Ga. and retired from Cobb County School District after 30 years of service. She enjoyed teaching and learning. She was affiliated with the Church Women United, The Atlanta Chapter of the Cedar Hill Alumni Association, The Salvation Army, and AARP.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Adams, she was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister, Laura Nesbitt.
She is survived by her nieces, Susie Iraleen Smith (Roger) of Toomsboro, Ga.; Cora Pooler (Thomas “Ted”) of Rentz, Ga.; Judy Barton of Atlanta, Ga.; two nephews, Robert Barton of Cedartown, Ga. and Gerald Barton of Atlanta, Ga., and a host of great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
