James Darrin Alligood

James Darrin Alligood (Wood) 56, of East Dublin, GA, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024. He was born on April 24, 1967, in Laurens County.

He is preceded in death by his parents HC and Grace Alligood and long time best friend Keith Shiver.

Darrin was a heavy equipment operator with Laurens County Public Works for 35 years, he was known for his dedication to his job and mentoring younger crew members. He took pride in assisting the public and was loved for his commitment to helping others. He never met a stranger. He had an infectious smile that will never be forgotten.

In his leisure time, Darrin enjoyed camping, fishing the river and collecting arrowheads since childhood. He also loved playing pool, cooking, and watching food preparation videos. In his last week he often spoke of cooking a pot roast. Darrin’s friendly nature led him to cherish long conversations with both old friends and new acquaintances.

Darrin is survived by his son, Taylor Alligood, grandson Jacob, sister Tina Wilds (Donnie), half-sisters Gina Kloos (Billy) and Bethie Biffany (Jon), nieces Kendell Floyd (Justin), Kayla Dean (Charlie Long), Kelley Wilds (Robbie Overstreet), nephews Nicholas Dean and Chris Wilds (Casey), and several great-nieces and nephews.

A service to commemorate Darrin’s life will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home in Dublin, GA. Pastor Baron Powell will officiate.

Per his request, Darrin will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread in the river. It is requested that guest of the memorial service wear camouflage in Darrin memory. He loved each and every one who was a part of his life. He only requested that happy times to be remembered and spoke. Darrin (Wood) will be remembered for his kind heart, dedication to his work, and love for helping others.
