Ring the bells and sound the alarms as her enchanting story begins…

At 2:30 p.m. on April 7, 1945, God closely watched as his little angel descended into the waiting arms of Mr. Holbert and Lillie Payne Wilson. From the moment she entered this world, her glory shown all around her. Both her paternal grandparents, the late Clisby and Ella Belle Wilson, and maternal grandparents, the late Raffield and Sarah Mack Payne, joined in witnessing this wondrous creation of God. It was said that this glorious gift would be called Rubye.

As Rubye grew, so did her desire to serve in every way she could. At four years old, she was changing the diapers of her siblings and helping Mama Sarah cook her famous biscuits and gravy. By the age of 7, she was able to cook full meals. Her skills and talents carried over from the home and into the classroom. Her formative years were spent excelling at Henry A. Hunt Elementary in Fort Valley, GA. When the family returned to Laurens County, she joined The Millville Baptist Church and continued her education at Millville School. During those years she enthusiastically participated in chorus, SLAG (Student Librarian Assistants of Georgia), and was a Thespian. Rubye graduated as Salutatorian in 1962. Upon graduating, she spread her wings by traveling to New York to find better employment to help support her family. Being a true Southern Belle, she quickly returned home where she found gainful employment at the local cleaners for the next three years.

In April of 1965, she entered into matrimony to the late Rev. Robert E. Hall, Jr. From this twenty-five year union, she was blessed with four children. Rubye was untiringly devoted to rearing her children and all children she encountered. She brought her children up in the church teaching them to love and serve the Lord. During her life, she was a member of various churches until she joined The Williams Chapel Baptist Church. In every church, she served in various compacities wherever she was needed. At The Williams Chapel Baptist Church, she faithfully served as the Sunday School and Bible Study teacher, Choir Member, Kitchen Committee Member, Senior Missionary, and Mother Board Member.

While working for the Lord and caring for her family was a blessing, she still had a burning desire to go to college and achieve her dreams. In time, she did just that. Rubye graduated in 2002 from Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. Shortly after graduation, she realized that teaching was her true passion. She believed she could use her teaching platform to steer children in the right direction. Mrs. Rubye served as a substitute teacher in both the Dublin City and Laurens County School Systems for numerous years before accepting a position teaching G.E.D. (General Educational Development) and A.B.E. (Adult Basic Education) classes at Dodge State Prison. She retired after 15 years due to health concerns. She continued to teach Sunday School until her health forced her to take a break in November of 2023. She did not let that hinder her mission of spreading the gospel. Mrs. Rubye continued to share the word of God from her rooms in the hospitals and nursing facilities with anyone who called or came to visit.

A little after 6:30 a.m. on February 6, 2024, God called his angel to return home. To welcome her home, in addition to her parents and grandparents, are her brothers the late Holbert Wilson, Jr., Andrew Wilson, Sr., and Elder Thomas L. Wilson, Sr. She also had two sisters who made early transitions, Little Otha Mae Wilson and Sandra Canady.

She leaves behind countless loved ones and friends to celebrate her ascension into glory. She gave virtuous instruction to her daughters Cathy R. (Joseph) Greene, Columbia, S.C.; and Dr. Christa L. Hall, Dublin, GA. She taught lessons of respect and honor to her sons, Michael E. Hall, Sr. Dublin, GA; and Kenneth W. (Stephanie) Hall, Liberty Township, OH. Praying and trusting God in every situation was instilled in her seven grandchildren, MarKita S. James, CA; Randy J. Wright, Houston, TX; Dr. Michael E. (Dr. Kayla) Hall, Jr.; Dr. Governor H. (Dr. Goble) Henderson, III, Tucson, AZ; Alexandia D. Greene, Columbia, S.C.; Lucas Hall, East Dublin, GA; Thomas Denham, Harrison, GA. Love the Lord, be sweet, obey your parents were the words for her cherished great-grandbabies Lilyana K. McGirt-Greene, Columbia, S.C.; and Teigan A. Wright, Houston, TX.

Rubye knew that God would continue to carry the burdens of her God-fearing, beloved sisters, Sarah Wilson-Rogers, St. Francisville, LA; Patricia “Patty” Schmidt, Kennewick, WA; and Van (Dink) Wilson, Savannah, GA; as well as her precious gifts of sisters through marriage, Beverly Wilson and Laverne Wilson, Dublin, GA; and Gracie Wilson, Burbank, WA. Her cherished great aunt, Charlie Mae Payne, Montrose, GA; and her oldest and dearest cousin, Christine “Big Ma” Rozier, East Dublin, GA.

She also left love and wise instruction for special in-laws, Stanley Grant, Dublin, GA; Denise Whipple, Dublin, GA; and Dr. Debra Cooper, Augusta, GA.; her very special god-children Michael & Chekeli Daniels, Stockbridge, GA; her special, long-time friends, Geraldine (Dea. Bobby) Williams, East Dublin, GA; Doshie (Dea. Joseph) Greene, Dublin, GA; Gwendolyn (Dea. Ronald) Williams; Janice (Dea. Theotis) Reese; and Norman (Martressa) Payne, Dublin, GA;

To her lifelong brother and sister, Rev. Ellis A. and Sis. Dorothy J. Carswell, she left this Earth with a great appreciation for the many years they shared their divinely created relationship, with the blessed assurance they will continue to lead and guide her children in the ways of the Lord.

Out of all her years on the battle field, God never failed her. To God be the Glory.
