Celebration of Life Services for Zion Brooks will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00AM. Location: Serenity Funeral Home 414 Telfair Street Dublin, Georgia. Dr. Willie L. Edmond will serve as eulogist. Interment will follow at Valdosta Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Zion Brooks was born May 20, 2000 in Columbus, GA to his loving mother Mrs. Monica (Larry) Thomas Ragus. During Monica’s pregnancy with Zion, Lauryn Hill wrote a song entitled To Zion, which was a declaration of love and joy for her child. This song helped guide Monica’s decision in naming her youngest son.
He was baptized at an early age at Wynnton Hill Baptist Church.
Zion was educated in the Columbus Public School system. While attending Hardaway High School, he was active in the following extracurricular activities: basketball with the YMCA, football for Spirit Filled Ministries, baseball, and soccer.
Once he reached his late teens, making money became a priority. This quality helped Zion grow into himself and become his own man.
If Zion could ever lend a helping hand, he was always willing to offer assistance with a smile on his face. He will be remembered for being charismatic, respectful, loving, and hardworking. These are qualities that were repeated over and over to describe him while he was residing in North Dakota.
Before Zion’s death on June 24, 2024, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lassie Thomas, of East Dublin, GA, Eddie J. Thomas, of Columbus, GA, Leroy Smith, of Columbus, GA.
He leaves to cherish his legacy: his mother and stepfather, Monica (Larry) Thomas Ragus; two brothers he looked to for guidance and advice, George “Frank” Warnick and Devin K. Brooks, both of Columbus, GA; his grandmother, Josephine Smith, of Columbus, GA; aunts Rhonda Brooks of Columbus, GA; uncles Wauneka Brooks of Columbus, GA, Edwin (Connie) Thomas of Garden City, GA; cousins Pennie (Deon) Calvin, of Atlanta GA; Craig (Leslie) Thomas Jr of Savannah, GA; great aunts, Claudia Pompey and Barbara Gibson of Columbus, GA, Evelyn Harris of Barnesville, GA, Gwen (Willie) Edmond, Robinelle Madry, Rosetta May and Belinda Robinson, both of Dublin, GA; great uncles, Ralph Brooks of Columbus, GA, JB (Kay) Brantley Jr, of East Dublin, GA; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Public viewing will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 1:00-7:00PM at the funeral home.
